At the festival closing of the 31st euro-scene Leipzig last year, the award-winning dance piece SOUL CHAIN by the Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal was to run. Unfortunately, this had to be cancelled at short notice due to illness. The demand on the part of the audience was as huge as the disappointment at the time. We want to make up for this and will catch up with the Leipzig premiere of the tanzmainz guest performance in the Großes Haus of Schauspiel Leipzig on 9 and 10 November 2022. The closing of the 32nd euro-scene Leipzig 2022 will take place for the first time at the Leipzig Opera House. In a co-production with the Leipzig Ballet, we celebrate the premiere of the evening MARIN / SCHRÖDER on 13 November. With DUO D’EDEN (1986) and GROSSE FUGE (2001), the Leipzig Ballet presents two classics from the work of the great French dancer and choreographer Maguy Marin. Ballet director Mario Schröder will create a world premiere to music by contemporary French composer Pascal Dusapin. Find more information here.
UBUNTU CONNECTION (on 11 and 12 November) is euro-scene Leipzig’s new format. In the broadest sense, following on from the competition “The Best German Dance Solo”, 16 different artists from the fields of dance and new circus compete with and for each other on stage. With live music, they conquer the space in a battle from round to round and create the UBUNTU CONNECTION with the audience. The inspiring approach of “Ubuntu” embodies the longing for a constructive attitude based on respect, empathy, participation, change and hope. UBUNTU Connection will be moderated by choreographer and dancer Raphael Moussa Hillebrand and curated by the Berlin hip-hop dance theatre collective “Somɔgɔ”. With the premiere of SULLE SPONDE DEL LAGO – AM UFER DES SEES by the Forward Dance Company of the LOFFT – Das Theater on 10 and 11 November we conclude the two-year cooperation with our “Associate Artists”. The production is a variation on Swan Lake to the music of Tchaikovsky, one of the most famous works of classical ballet and thus also representative of a certain idealised body image. Choreographer Alessandro Schiattarella takes a critical and personal look at the iconic ballet. What is considered supposedly “normal” or “beautiful”?
