Three different readings of the most important ballet of the 20th century on the occasion of its premiere 100 years ago in Paris: by David Wampach, Montpellier (as duo), Tero Saarinen, Helsinki (as solo) and Georges Momboye, Paris (with 12 dancers).

Die Räder im Getriebe (the wheels in motion)

Stage technology - a secret. Stage technology - invisible to most of the audience. You only see the stage set in the performances, you hear music, you see lighting effects. The performance takes an hour and a half, the technical setup from unloading the stage set to the start of the performance often takes two days.

Understanding beyond all prejudices and ethnic clichés, an unconditional togetherness - that is the wish of most artists inside and outside the European Union. The countries on the periphery also belong to Europe, because many of their cultural roots lie here, and all differences are an enrichment of the European community.

Le sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring)

A work of the century in four groundbreaking choreographies: Vaslav Nijinsky's original was considered lost until it could be reconstructed in 1987. Exactly 100 years later, Sasha Waltz from Berlin followed suit. Dietmar Seyffert, chief choreographer and artistic director of the Leipzig Ballet from 1978-88, created his »Sacre« in 1981, and finally Pina Bausch with one of the best choreographies of the approximately 300 versions that now exist.

1913 – Dance on the Volcano

1913 is the last peaceful year before the First World War. But many artists already foresee in their works the dark times that lie ahead for Europe. And Igor Stravinsky creates a revolutionary sound image of that time with »Le sacre du printemps« (»The Rite of Spring«), which turns into a scandal at its premiere on May 29, 1913.

Idyll and closeness to nature once defined rural life in Latvia. Now the villages stand empty. The well-known director Alvis Hermanis and his six actors created a highly symbolic play about the disappearance of identity.

The art action of the women's punk band Pussy Riot in Moscow in 2012 was just as disturbing as the ballet "Le sacre du printemps" in Paris in 1913. Christine Gaigg's unusual dance performance couples both events.
