On 6. November with an audio description.

The world premiere of ALLEE DER KOSMONAUTEN was the opening of the Sophiensæle in Berlin Mitte in September 1996. Since then, this choreographic concept has been seen as legendary and performed more than 150 times throughout the world; 80 of them in Germany alone. On the occasion of the piece’s 25th anniversary, Sasha Waltz will come to Leipzig for a guest performance for the first time.

The focus of events is a living room couch in an apartment within an East German pre-fab high rise in Berlin-Marzahn. Feelings and the desire for movement build up in a three-generation family’s precarious vicinity; they can either be buried in lethargy or subject to the feedback from their confined living situation. The choreographic approach to dealing with living in close quarters and the resulting conflicts creates solutions; the lack of affection develops an uneasy comedy. ALLEE DER KOSMONAUTEN belongs to a series of Sasha Waltz’s early projects that delve into worlds of movement from daily life as a space for dance interpretation. Created at the verge of a new age, the piece tells the tale of a new era of living together without backdoors. It has a surprising relevance in the year 2021.

Sasha Waltz is an icon of the German dance scene. The Tanzcompagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests was founded by Sasha Waltz and Jochen Sandig in Berlin in 1993; it presents approximately 70 performances per year worldwide from a repertory catalogue of 12 currently available productions.

There will be artists’ talk with the audience on stage after the performance on 5. November.
