Ein Abend mit Choreografien aus Prag

Ein Abend mit Choreografien aus Prag

I. Compagnie Barbora Kryslová, Prag

Tuesday 7 Nov. and Wednesday 8 Nov. // 10:00 – 11:15 p.m.
Neue Szene

    Pißputt

Twice a pair – and twice completely different. This evening provides a glimpse into Prague’s dance and theatre scene with two productions. Granted, a number of independent groups have sprung up by now, but most of them work in a relatively conventional manner. In the balancing act between dance and theatre, between tradition and new dramatic experiments, Barbora Kryslová and Kristyna Lhotáková represent exceptions.

Barbora Kryslová, born in Prague in 1972, received her education in dance in her hometown, in London, Paris and New York. Since 1998 she has studied choreography at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst »Ernst Busch« in Berlin. With »Pißputt« she has created a dynamic dance piece between man and woman that, with lightness and humour, represents the routine of a relationship all the way to the point of violence. The title – a little fishing hut – was borrowed from the fairy tale about the fisher and his wife.

These passionate emotions change to the dry, icy aesthetic of Kristyna Lhotáková, born in 1977 in Prague. She studied among other places at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen and at the Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague, and was already a guest once at euro-scene Leipzig – in 1995 as a dancer in the piece »…and where is Maria?« by Lenka Flory. She has danced with Simone Sandroni in Prague and Anna Huber in Berlin. Since 1995 she has also done choreography. She and the double bass player and guitarist Ladislav Soukup embody an unusual partnership of man and woman that, like Rubic’s Cube, can be arranged in ever different ways and at the same time can be understood as the relationship of the artist and his muse as well as of dance and music.
