German premières

Transit – between different cultures … The Albanian dance theatre company, founded by Gjergj Prevazi in 2000, remains the only contemporary dance ensemble in the entire country. Two dance performances present their serious and emotionally enthralling examination of cultural conflicts:

The dance duet »Extreme makeover – Culture clash II« looks at a couple who met on Facebook and have fallen deeply in love with each other. Katharina is German, Labinot comes from Kosovo. However, they both have completely contradictory notions of life and gender roles …

The piece »Without blood« for 5 dancers was inspired by the brilliant same named story »Senza sangue« by Alessandro Baricco (born in 1958 in Turin). A thirst for revenge is a dangerous instinct that has caused bloody wars since the beginning of human history, as it did in 1997 in Albania as well. The war may be over, but a primitive lust for revenge continues to claim new victims. The dance performance calls for forgiveness and tolerance.

Gjergj Prevazi was born in 1964 in Durrës, the most important harbour city in Albania. He has created numerous choreographies for theatres in Tirana, Priština, Skopje and Istanbul as well as for his own company. Prevazi teaches dance and choreography in Tirana and has been Artistic director of the festival Albania dance meeting in Durrës since 2006.
