    Stück für drei Stimmen

Powder compacts, brushes, perfumes, creams, lipsticks – these are the essential equipment for beautiful appearance and hidden souls. The true face, which remains invisible to others for a lifetime, is concealed behind make-up. Sometimes we are hardly able to recognise it ourselves.

»Grimo Opera« (»Make Up-Opera«) is based on interviews from well-known lifestyle magazines and television talk shows and on advertising slogans and make-up guides. Birutė Mar has condensed this material into a theatre text for three actors. A singer, an actor and a ballerina relate fragmentary stories from various phases of their lives. Parallel to this, the faces of the actors are shown on a video, with their past and future characters.

Antanas Kučinskas has composed a type of chamber opera, for a cappella singing, where the three voices juggle every word and every sound, interweaving them in a precise and virtuoso manner. Kučinskas, born in Ukmergė in 1968, has been the musical director at the Lithuanian national theatre in Vilnius since 1998 and, with his symphonies and choral music, makes guest appearances at many festivals and concert series across Europe.

Birutė Mar (Marcinkevičiūtė), born in Kaunas in 1969, has been an actor at the Lithuanian national theatre in Vilnius since 1994. She also produces her own projects, combining theatre, dance, literature and music. With her solo performances »Words in the Sand« (1998), »Antigone« (2003) and »Last Night« (2005), she has also celebrated international success.

Oskaras Koršunovas, born in Vilnius in 1969, is currently the greatest Lithuanian director of the younger generation. With his independent Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre (OKT), he has made two previous guest performances at the euro-scene Leipzig: in 1997 with »The Old Woman« based on Daniil Charms and in 2001 with »A Midsummer Night’s Dream«.
