17th Festival 2007

Theatre and dance from the old and new Europe

06 – 11 November 2007

The euro-scene Leipzig will take place from 06 to 11 November 2007 for the 17th time. Under the motto »Divisions«, the festival of contemporary European theatre will examine questions about areas of contact and divided consciousness, and penetrates different kinds of in-between worlds. Altogether 12 guest performances from 9 countries in 27 performances and 9 theatre venues will be shown.

The guest performances show situations or processes, which – in their contradictory nature and irrationality – normally avoid looking at a world that is focused on cosmetic effect. The reference lies in both the socio-political and the individual areas. Here, the insecurities and losses of identity caused by outside influences play equally as much a part as the energies and new strengths being released. The spectrum of the productions includes dance and spoken theatre as well as transitional areas of performing art and musical stage forms.

The euro-scene Leipzig has issued a Carte blanche for a guest performance to a member of the artistic advisory council for the first time in 2006. This year it was given to Rolf Dennemann, artistic director of the festival off limits, Dortmund.

The competition »Das beste deutsche Tanzsolo« (»Best German dance solo«) in the conception by Alain Platel, Ghent, will be held for the 8th time within the festival.
