Romeo Castellucci belongs to the leading theatre artists of the present time. He was an Artiste associé (consulting artist) at the Festival d'Avignon 2008 where he brought out his trilogy based on Dante's »La divina commedia« (»The divine comedy«).

»Inferno« was premiered in the Courtyard of Honour in the Papal Palace and transports the world of ideas of hell into our times. While the nearly wordless »Inferno« works as a generalisation, »Purgatorio« – at first amazingly specific – shows a family in a living room. There is not another Castellucci piece that gets deeper under the skin than »Purgatorio«, an incest story. The installation »Paradiso« tries (in vain) to provide a notion of heaven.
