The lighting is like a brush that reveals everything that it touches. Just like the two dancers, two friends, who head out on a journey together. Fragments of bodies that seem almost animalistic are animated one after another and then disappear again in the darkness. Light and shadow create a world of illusion and dreamlike adventure: the snake-man’s escape from the spider’s web; seeking traces in a damaged aircraft or an underwater landscape with fantastic creatures.

»Hocus Pocus« enthralls children just as much as adults. With optical illusions, the little peep box lets objects and people levitate in the air; it is an artistic and technical masterpiece. The background music from Edvard Grieg’s »Peer Gynt«, composed in 1876 for the eponymous theatre piece by Henrik Ibsen and later brought together in two suites, inspires one to imagine a world of fantasy and dreams.

Philippe Saire was born in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, in 1957. When he was five, his parents moved to Lausanne. Here, he studied contemporary dance and was then active as a dancer and choreographer, above all in Paris. In 1986, he founded his own company, which has belonged to the most famous in Switzerland for decades. He has developed around 40 productions, with over 1.500 presentations in 200 cities throughout the world. After the guest performances of »Nouvelles« (»Novels«) 1993, »Faust« 1999 and »Black out« 2015, he will be at euro-scene Leipzig for the 4th time now.
