Soul Chain

Inspired by the strong emotions involved with love, SOUL CHAIN connects ballet and electro to create enthralling contemporary dance. The 17 dancers become a swarm full of energy in a hypnotizing choreography that won the German theater prize DER FAUST in 2018 and was celebrated by the audience at the renowned GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM in Munich.

Even if Shaorn Eyal says that SOUL CHAIN is a piece about love and desire, you shouldn’t expect too much romanticism. Instead, the movements are animalistic and pure. It is a steaming group that moves with the highest level of discipline in a rhythmic harmony, unisono. But the longer the unisono lasts, the more time we as an audience have to seek the differences. It is completely intentional that we find them. Because in the same, says the choreographer, you see all the more how different we are. And here, in the contrast between the group and the individual, she places her declaration of love for the absolute uniqueness of each individual.

Sharon Eyal was born in Jerusalem. From 1990 until 2008, she was an excellent dancer for the Israeli Batsheva Dance Company – one of the most influential contemporary ensembles in the world. Together with her long-term partner Gai Behar, in 2013 she founded her own Compagnie L-E-V. In addition, they also choreograph commissioned works throughout the world, most recently Nederlands Dans Theater 1, the Royal Swedish Ballet and regularly for tanzmainz, the contemporary dance ensemble of the Staatstheater Mainz.
