The 31st edition of euro-scene Leipzig was the first festival year under the direction of Christian Watty. Through world premieres and co-productions with partners throughout Europe, the festival shone far beyond Leipzig.

Trajal Harrell / Schauspielhaus Zürich (Switzerland)

Choreographer Trajal Harrell presents his first work as director of the new dance company at Schauspielhaus Zürich at the opening of the 31st euro-scene Leipzig. A dance piece to the most famous solo piano recording of all time – Keith Jarrett's THE KÖLN CONCERT.

euro-scene Leipzig is becoming even more firmly anchored in the city of Leipzig. To this end, we are entering into a close partnership with regional artists for two years at a time. The first "Associate Artists" for 2021/2022 is the Forward Dance Company of LOFFT - DAS THEATER.

Amores de Leste

Hotel Europa (Portugal)

AMORES DE LESTE (Love in the East) is a co-production of euro-scene Leipzig with Culturgest in Lisbon and Theatre de la Ville in Paris. The play deals with the lives of young Portuguese anti-fascist activists from former colonies who, in their fight against the fascist colonial dictatorship, lived in Eastern European socialist countries in order to be trained there.

Her solo piece SOULÈVEMENT (Uprising) is dedicated to the history and present of revolt, uprising and resistance, of new beginnings and visions since 1968.

Ruins + Hope Hunt & The Ascension into Lazarus

FUBUNATION (Great Britain) + Oona Doherty (Irland)

A double dance evening: first, Ruins by the two dancers Rhys Dennis and Waddah Sinada opens a dialog about the myth of masculinity. Afterwards, the young artist Oona Doherty from Ireland presents Hope Hunt & The Ascension into Lazarus, an extremely energetic choreography about the lower social classes in her native Belfast.

CANCELLED! Inspired by strong emotions surrounding love, SOUL CHAIN combines ballet and electro to create gripping contemporary dance. The 17 dancers become a swarm full of energy in a hypnotizing choreography.

After a year of pause and standstill, the dance scene and, under new management, euro-scene Leipzig are embarking on a new era. Together with our long-standing media partners ARTE, Accentus Music and Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig, we are teaming up for the first time for a film essay about young choreographers.
