A symposium on qualities, professionalism(s) and power

When is dance professional? This much-discussed question takes on heightened relevance when dancers challenge established visual habits.

Knowing that conventionally traditional criteria are not sufficient, the symposium UNPROFESSIONAL WORLDS? – taking into account the special knowledge and needs that make up mixed-abled dance – with dance critics, curators, teachers and other experts to explore questions of quality criteria, processuality and power. Special attention will be paid to the effects of barrier low-threshold on what happens on stage.

Furthermore, the study MOVE2GETHER!, commissioned by LOFFT – DAS THEATER and our Associate Artists from FORWARD DANCE COMPANY, will be presented during the conference. With the aim of eliciting the necessary framework conditions for mixed-abled dance to be practiced under professional conditions, the authors Ulrike Nestler and Fabian Chyle conducted a field study based on a Germany-wide inventory.
