With three events at the Theater der Jungen Welt this year, we are deepening our offerings on the topic of inclusion: In the guest performance HARMONIA by the dance company Unusual Symptoms of the Theater Bremen, choreographer Adrienn Hód celebrates human diversity. The INTERNATIONALE BÜHNE INKLUSION (INTERNATIONAL STAGE INCLUSION) symposium explores the question of what cultural practice for all can look like in concrete terms. And in the German-French workshop „ICH WÜNSCHE MIR, DASS ALLE AUS DEM RAHMEN FALLEN ...“ (‘I WISH THAT EVERYONE FALLS OUT OF THE FRAME ...’), ensemble members from Theater Thikwa and Insolite Fabriq redefine the boundaries of inclusive theatre.

Harmonia

HARMONIA by Unusual Symptoms is an exceptional phenomenon. Rarely do productions by German municipal theatre dance companies cause a stir both nationally and internationally. With exuberance and self-irony, ten dancers celebrate human togetherness, question the status of the body in society, but also the supposedly progressive forms of contemporary dance art. Choreographer Adrienn Hód defines inclusion as diversity, with dancers with and without disabilities throwing conventional notions of bodies overboard. In 2023, HARMONIA was awarded the Rudolf Lábán Prize for the best dance piece in Hungary.

International stage inclusion

How can we improve our cultural practice? How can inclusive cultural work be organised in an international context? And what synergies arise from cross-border artistic exchange? These questions are the focus of the INTERNATIONALE BÜHNE INKLUSION – AUSTAUSCH UND VERNETZUNG (INTERNATIONAL STAGE INCLUSION - EXCHANGE AND NETWORKING) symposium, to which the Berlin festival NO LIMITS and the Goethe-Institut, in cooperation with euro-scene Leipzig, the Institut français Leipzig and the Theater der Jungen Welt, are inviting artists and cultural professionals on 8 November.

The symposium will begin with keynote speeches and practical examples of inclusive cultural programs that offer insights into the opportunities and challenges of inclusive cultural work. The subsequent table discussions will focus on topics such as international mobility for artists with disabilities, the programming of inclusive ensembles at European festivals and opening processes for inclusion at cultural institutions. Admission to the symposium is free, registration is required.

Inclusive theater workshop

The symposium will be complemented on 9 November by the inclusive German-French theatre workshop „ICH WÜNSCHE MIR, DASS ALLE AUS DEM RAHMEN FALLEN …“ (‘I WISH EVERYONE WOULD FALL OUT OF THE FRAME ...’), organised in cooperation with euro-scene Leipzig, the Berlin festival NO LIMITS, the Goethe-Institut and the Institut français Leipzig at the Theater der Jungen Welt. Mehenni Tahiri from the Compagnie Insolite Fabriq in Lyon and Torsten Holzapfel from the Berlin theatre Thikwa break through language barriers in a playful and educational way and redefine the boundaries of inclusive theatre. They offer the opportunity to play, share, laugh, move, express, invent and tell stories together.

No prior knowledge is required to take part in this workshop. Tickets are only available via our festival box office at the IntercityHotel Leipzig, by e-mail to tickets@euro-scene.de or by telephone on 0341-217 16 48.
